On a jury trial, the defendant,
Alfred R. Szabo, was found guilty of the crime of
theft of a motor vehicle in violation of 53-57 of
[166 Conn. 290]
the General Statutes. The sole issue presented on
his appeal to this court is whether the trial
court erred in admitting into evidence the
testimony of a police officer as to the
defendant's statement that he was the operator of
an automobile, subsequently determined to have
been stolen, made at a time when the defendant had
not been warned of his constitutional rights. It
is the contention of the defendant that the
decision of the United States Supreme Court in
Miranda v. Arizona, 384 U.S. 436, 86 S.Ct. 1602,
16 L.Ed.2d 694, required the exclusion of the
defendant's statement.
