Andre Pilette was a versatile and exciting driver who competed in sports car and grand prix racing from 1951 until the mid 1960s. His father before him raced at Indianapolis and Andre's son, Teddy, competed in Formula 5000 races. Andre Pilette drove for the Gordini Team in Formula 1 events throughout the 1950s and finished nicely in the endurance races at Le Mans, France. Pilette was among a select group of Belgian drivers who were founding members of the Equipe Nationale Belge. The era in which the Belgian racer competed was dominated by the Maseratis and Mercedes entered by stalwarth drivers like Stirling Moss and Juan Manuel Fangio.
